1/7th Battalion


46th (North Midland) Division

The 7th (Robin Hood) Battalion was part of the Notts and Derby Brigade within the North Midland Division, a Territorial Force division already in existence at the outbreak of the war. The Division landed in France in late February 1915 and served on the Western Front until the Armistice.

1/7th (Robin Hood) Battalion


  • 4 Aug 1914 : the Drill Hall, Derby Road, Nottingham. Part of Notts & Derby Brigade in the North Midland Division. On mobilisation moved to Harpenden then to Braintree in mid-November 1914
  • 26-28 Feb 1915 : landed at Le Havre, France; A and B Coys. on 26th; C and D Coys. and Battalion Transport on 28th
  • 12 May 1915 : formation became the 139th Brigade in 46th (North Midland) Division
  • 31 Jan 1918 : transferred to 178th Brigade in 59th (2nd North Midland) Division and absorbed 2/7th Bn; renamed 7th Bn

  • 1 Jul 1916 : Attack on the Gommecourt Salient
  • 14 Mar-5 Apr 1917 : German retreat to the Hindenburg Line
