To assist the ultimate goal of this project, publication of an updated account of the WW1 campaigns of the 7th (Robin Hood) Battalions, Sherwood Foresters, a nominal roll of officers and men who were commissioned or enlisted with the 7th Battalion is currently being compiled. The 7th Notts & Derby database will comprise photographs, family documentation, newspaper reports and information from military sources, and so will serve as a valuable source of information from which the story of the 1/7th and 2/7th Battalion’s campaigns can be illustrated with the deeds of individual soldiers.
To this end we seek your help in providing family material that will assist us in building our archive. Photographs, letters, personal papers and reminiscences of family members will be gratefully received. You do not need to donate original material, (digital) copies are preferable and very much appreciated. As a token of our thanks for your cooperation, we shall send you any information about your relative currently held on our 7th N & D Database.
If you know, or believe, that a relative served with our local Nottingham territorial battalion during WW1, then please get in touch via the contact form.
The majority of entries within the database contain little or no additional information, or photograph. However, we do have an expanding set of holdings in which a fuller record of a man's service is documented. A couple of representative examples from this set are made available as a PDF document. We would, of course, love to have a comprehensive record for every man who served with the 7th Notts and Derbys. Although we realise that this is not possible, it is our hope that this web site will help us achieve a more complete picture of those involved in the battalions' WW1 campaigns.
